Medication management for acute or chronic pain can be complex. There are several classes of medications besides opioids used to treat pain, and it is important to make sure a pain specialist helps make sure you are utilizing your medications safely and effectively. Multi-modal pain medication management, along with procedure-based therapies if appropriate, is the best way to achieve long-term pain control.

Did You Know?

Opioid medications have been shown to be most effective for acute pain after surgery and chronic pain related to cancer, but these medications are often prescribed for various acute and chronic pain conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for medication management?

You may be a candidate for medication management if you have an acute or chronic pain condition that doesn’t respond to over-the-counter pain medications, or if you have been prescribed pain medications that are still inadequately controlling your pain. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for medication management, schedule a consultation with Ascension Pain Specialists today.

What can I expect when receiving medication management at Ascension Pain Specialists?

While receiving medication management, you will be required to come in for follow up visits roughly every three months to monitor your progress and make sure you aren’t having any side effects from your medications. If you are taking opioid medications, your pain specialist will also instruct you to undergo urine drug screening periodically to ensure that you are taking your medications as prescribed.
